After an awesome month of couch sitting, a Netflix-binge, and mini family vacations, the semester has finally come to a start! Whether you’re a freshmen and you’re finally getting into the groove of Mason, or you are a senior counting down the days until graduation, we have some great programs this semester to get you back on track. Here are some tips we’d like to equip you with this semester!
- So many events, so little time! Winter Welcome Week at GMU will begin the first week of classes. We have everything from a hypnotist to a shuttle bus that takes students snow tubing at Liberty Mountain! Work on the weekdays? No problem, there are some great events to participate on the weekend! Check out the full schedule at winterwelcomeweek.gmu.edu for more information!
- The Search Begins! As off-campus students, we have the great advantage of taking part in internships (paid or unpaid) in the DMV! It’s never too early to start searching for summer internships (most deadlines are end of February/beginning of March). Check out HireMason or speak directly with a career counselor for possible internship opportunities this summer! More information can be found in the Career Services Department.
- Take advantage of your time! The first week of school will leave you with some down time to catch your breath. Use this opportunity to meet with your academic, industry, financial aid advisor, or us—your off-campus student advisors! The more you know, the more opportunities you can take part in! We are so excited to welcome you all to a new semester at Mason. This is your year. This is your semester. Take charge, get focused, and be a positive force in your community. Mason is your home, and don’t be afraid to get involved. We are all rooting for you!
P.S. We look forward to seeing you all at our upcoming Off Campus Welcome Tent on Jan. 23 and our annual Pre-Groundhog’s Day Breakfast on Jan. 31st!
