It’s hard to believe that we are only 20 days away from the first day of classes! For a lot of students, it will be their first time at Mason as a new freshmen or transfer student, so here are some tips on how to have the best first day ever!
- Explore the campus
Use the first couple of weeks to get familiar with the campus—this is going to be your second home for the next four years so it’s important you know the campus well. Some of the main places to check out are the Johnson Center, SUB 1, Fenwick Library, and the HUB.
- You will get lost
And so will your classmates! Even upperclassmen don’t know where all their classes are on the first day. There will be tents around campus during the first couple of days to help guide you to your desired location. If you don’t see one, ask the people around you for directions.
- Meet as many people as possible
Introduce yourself to as many people as you can. Don’t be afraid to start up a conversation with your classmates or the person standing in line with you at Panera. Everyone is going to be eager to make new friends, so be sure to take advantage of this!
- Be sure to take a break
The first day of class can be overwhelming with classes and events. Meet some friends for a relaxing coffee or dinner break to share stories of your first day.
- Remember that everyone is as nervous as you are
It’s natural for new students to be stressed out—remember that you are not alone! This is an entirely new experience for everyone.
Good luck and I hope you have a fun and stress-free first day of school at Mason!
